When Everyone Is Getting Wise is the sophomore album from Washington DC psych outfit Peanut Butter and Dave. The duo of David Diaz and Paul Bugala serve up nine tracks of dynamic post-punk tinged indie rock. With a melodic grounding and heavy touches, Peanut Butter and Dave have put together an album of broad appeal. Stylistically in the same vein as Weezer, this album is fun, rocking and well produced. Synthetic Colours: Beneath The Mango Tree

 

Beneath The Mango Tree is the debut full length from L.A. freak folk group Synthetic Colours.  The trio of Austin Kowalczyk , Yvonne Eadon and John Sanchez have delivered 8 tracks of rollicking indie music. Stylistically it is impossible not to have a comparison to Moldy Peaches. Anakin: Emergency Broadcast System

 

Today marks the release of Emergency Broadcast System, the new EP from FZB favorites Anakin. The trio of Chris Rosenthal, Brad Chancellor and Brent Windler are a consistently first rate shoegaze band. The five tracks have an alt rock radio ready vocal and melodic feel, make good use of synthesizer, have enough heavy guitar to satisfy anyone and drums that are rock solid. Polyan & the Johnson Sisters: June

 

June is the debut album from L.A. pop outfit Polyan & the Johnson Sisters. The 12 tracks are a grungy mix of lo-fi, jug band and dreampop. In the same vein as Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros there is a "the gangs all here" feel to the record. The tracks abound in a good time vibe and have the kind of live feel that makes this type of album really work. Step up to this one and have some fun. Halt Ever: Therapy

 

Therapy is the debut EP from Australian shoegaze band Halt Ever. The three tracks have a lo-fi production quality married to a post-punk vibe. The EP has some dreampop qualities to it, but is more raw than typical for that genre. Think heavier than Real Estate, but not as raw as Cloud Nothings. Jenn Fiorentino: From Darkness To Light

 

From Darkness To Light is the debut album from Toronto folk-rock artist Jenn Fiorentino. The ten tracks are a rollicking acoustic set that, to quote the artist "lives and breathes because of my association with punk, even if my own music has taken on many different characters and shapes." Fiorentino has a sophisticated voice and songwriting style. Engaging and intimate, this album hints at an artist with a potential for greatness. Weekend Riot Club: Psytchotropia

 

Hailing from Hamilton, Ontario, Weekend Riot Club have dropped their debut album, Psychotropia. From the very first note you'll know that this is no ordinary debut. Lead vocalist Melissa Marchese has a sultry, rocked out style that perfectly matches the powerful and proficient instrumentals from Mike Chetcuti on guitar and Paul Fontes on drums. Add to this twelve tracks of immaculate songwriting and  production by Nick Blagona (Deep Purple, Alexisonfire, The Sheepdogs) and you have a sure winner of a debut album. Julia Brown: 7"

 

7" is the new EP from Maryland indie rock band Julia Brown. The three tracks have a folk-rock vibe combined with an indie sensibility similar to Local Natives, but instrumentally more imaginative. The EP flows effortlessly from soft acoustic, to twangy power-pop, to heavy garage tinged musing all in the course of three songs. Teta Mona: Lamu and Man EP

 

London psych artist Teta Mona has released her latest EP, Lamu and Man. The three tracks are retro, R&B influenced and pouty. Listening to Teta Mona, I envision the artist performing in an exotic bar in a James Bond movie. The EP has a sultry smoky, vibe that is compelling and instantly makes one want to hear more. Rivka: Faded EP

 

It's been a two year wait, but FZB favorites Rivka are back with a new EP, Faded. The Pittsburgh based synthpop duo of Reggie Wilkins and Rivka Rose have released six tracks of glitched out, hip-hop influenced dreampop. Soaring, atmospheric vocals, dense synth bass and understated beats characterize the EP. A dark vibe and intimate styling takes the EP into highly enjoyable territory. Bogan Via: Kanye Video

Here's an imaginative video from FZB favorites Bogan Via for their track Kanye. Set on the seamier side of pop, the video finds the two portraying small time hoods taking on what appears to be record store mafia. The video was written and directed by Freddie Paull. Watch it below.

Lullatone: Summer Songs

 

FZB favorites Lullatone are back with a new album, Summer Songs. The Nagoya, Japan based duo of Shawn James Seymour and Yoshimi Seymour serve up eight tracks of jangly pop songs fit for beach parties. With guitar sounds reminiscent of The Walkmen's Angela Surf City, Lullatone jangle their way through retro tracks with a Lennon/Ono'esque vibe. We Are Temporary: Hurt & Satellite

 

Brooklyn synthpop artist We Are Temporary has released two singles Hurt and Satellites that are an advance look at his debut album, Afterthoughts, which will be released July 9th on Stars & Letters Records. We Are Temporary is artist/producer Mark Roberts, head of Stars & Letters and one of our favorite people at FZB. Mark is also one of the most real artists you will ever have the pleasure to experience. Both tracks are deep, emotional  and intimate glimpses into the artist's life. Roberts builds his anthems from dark walls of jagged synths, where distorted drum batteries and broken-limb arpeggios conjure up the nihilism of fading love and the mechanistic brutality of late 80's darkwave and EBM. Roberts includes a four minute audio liner note with Hurt that reveals the anguish and personal searching that was the birthplace of the song. Kristoffer Vilsgaard, Christian Sinding Soendergaard and Simon Toftdahl Olesen, deliver four tracks that continue their unique form of dark psychedelic music. Chicago based post-punk band Flaum Adger have released their self-titled debut album. The trio of Rob Sieracki - bass, Mac McNeilly - drums and  Chris Fuller - guitar, vocals, serve up nine tracks of power packed rock, that has the vibe of a live recording, but with sterling production. The minimalist recording perfectly suits the songs, presenting them in their bare heavy form without pretentious overdubbing. Lights Dim: Young City EP

Teen Fiction is the absolutely kick arse new EP from Vancouver, garage rockers Dead Soft. The 5 tracks will grab you and show you what rock should sound like in 2K13. Frontman Nathaniel Epp writes songs that are instantly post-punk anthems, while Keeley Rochon and R. Troughton lay down a rhythm that locks the music together.
