Men Oh Pause: Pulse Check EP

 

Brighton, UK based label Tuff Enuff Records has released the debut EP from feminist punk band Men Oh Pause. The four tracks are dark, claustrophobic affairs, dripping of anxiety. The sound is reminiscent of early work by Lydia Lunch, with the EP throwing pop concepts of melody out the door, opting for raw, dissonant vibes. Sunday Guts: Cool Music

 

Cool Music is the aptly named new EP from Bethlehem, PA band Sunday Guts. The band describes their sound as spiffy guitar pop and we couldn't agree more. The four tracks are a good reminder of why we used to like bands like Weezer. Sunday guts play post-punky guitar pop music, presented in a lighthearted, unpretentious way. This EP is just a good band, doing good music....it's spiffy. Back in December 2011, we featured a truly great and unique artist, Daniel Waples aka Hang In Balance. His latest album, Lisn, was released last December and for whatever unforgivable reason, we have been remiss in not getting a review up on FZB. London born Waples plays the Hand Pan, a completely unique and mind blowingly beautiful instrument. This album features an international cast of musicians performing some of the most original music one will ever have the pleasure to hear. Discovering new record labels is always fun and today we have a good one to turn you on to, Mecanica. The label is led by Cesar Moscoso and has bases in Mexico City, Los Angeles and Berlin. Mecanica has done releases with such bands as Lebanon Hanover (FZB Favorite), Selofan, Tying Tiffany and Soft Metals.
