Whereswilder: Hotshot


Greek label, Inner Ear Records, brings us, Hotshot, the sophomore album from indie rock band Whereswilder. The vocals recall the sound of Stars, but this band is heavier, with elements of math rock and a nice, albeit quite derivative, retro feel. The guitars are definitely the standouts on this album, with a sterling melodic sense and strong chops. As a whole though, the album is solid, but yet unremarkable. Orations: Wych Elm


Wych Elm is the latest album from Buffalo, NY based Orations. The eleven tracks are completely compelling post-punk anthems. The first thing that will hit the listener is the absolutely huge vocals of Jess Collins, who's style is reminiscent of Florence Welch. The instrumentals are driving, with plenty of twang and you'll get one of the tightest drummers we've heard in a long time. Departures Vol. 1 is the new album from Toronto's North Atlantic Drift. The duo of Mike Abercrombie and Brad Deschamps deliver over an hour of music across twelve tracks, that include two live tracks.
