Kind Empires is the latest release from Capstan Shafts, the semi-solo project of singer/songwriter Dean Wells. This is classic lo-fi music in the vein of GBV, rough, hard and edgy, just like it should be. The fourteen tracks flash past in a fuzzy, heavy guitar blur. While many bands aspire to a lo-fi esthetic, but few are as adept at it as Wells. This is the best of the genre. If one looked up lo-fi in a dictionary, it should say Dean Wells' music.
