Decline & Dislocation is the second album this year from FZB favorite Nanaki, aka the solo project of prolific artist/producer Michael Daugherty. The nine tracks continue the instrumental variety from light melodic passages to full on metal crescendos. Daugherty has churned out a tremendous amount of music ranging from his solo projects to that of his band Postcode. This album shows the artist combining dense sonic experiences with minimal almost lyrical instrumentals all to good effect. Readers of this blog know well that we disdain most instrumental rock. It sounds unfinished to our ears and waiting for vocals that never come, like a commuter waiting for an already missed train. Daugherty manages to overcome this with his carefully crafted pieces that work well as instrumentals and elevate the form to art in its own right. A definite must have.
